When it comes to water filtration and ionized water, there are several companies in the industry. One such company that has come under quite a bit of scrutiny as of late is the Kangen water system. The Kangen Water Machine or Miracle Water Machine is owned by the Enagic Company.
There is quite a lot of information out on the internet connecting the Kangen water system to what many believe is a scam. To rightfully call a thing a “scam”, one must not get what one was expecting for one’s money. This isn’t quite the case with Kangen, although a deeper review of the company and its products is certainly warranted.
Multi-level Marketing Kangen Water System
While not a scam, the Enagic Company does use a MLM (Multi Level Marketing) approach to selling their water filtration units. Because of this business structure, a water filtration unit purchased from Kangen can cost nearly double that of a competing business’ system. The MLM commission structure is eight levels deep, which means the person actually buying the unit can have as many as seven markups prior. Essentially, the same style of unit can be purchased from one of many other companies for at least half the amount that would be paid for a Kangen water system.
Return to Origin
As far as marketing terms, Kangen is quite good at making their products sound as though they produce something different when compared to similar systems. The word “Kangen” is Japanese and means “return to origin”. The impression given with this term is that water filtered by the Kangen system will return it to its original state.
In reality, when water is processed through the Kangen units, it goes through the exact same process as any other competing unit. The end result is alkaline water and acidic water. Another marketing ploy used by Kangen is that their units produce a more negative ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) when in reality they produce the same levels as even the cheapest of ionizers.
Questionable Endorsements
Another misleading bit of public relations spinning involves stating that the Kangen water system is recognized and approved by the Japanese Health Department. While the Japanese have long known the benefits for health that comes with consuming and using ionized water, the fact is there has been no public statement from the Japanese Health Department either approving or disapproving the usage of Kangen units.
Superior or Not?
In an effort to justify the higher cost of their units, Kangen indicates that they cost more because they are a superior product. Quite simply put, the units work no better than comparable water filtration devices out on the market today. As there are eight levels to pay throughout the MLM system, it is a better marketing ploy to state the product is of a higher quality than another product – rather than to admit to having to pay a lot of people in the upstream of the MLM.
Conclusion
Purchasing a Kangen water system doesn’t necessarily mean on has been scammed. The units still produce quality-ionized water and accomplish much of what they state they will do. However, the over inflated price and dubious marketing tactics are worth reviewing, and a simple product comparison with Kangen’s competitors will show that a good quality water filtration system that produces ionized water can be purchased at a much lower price with the same level of production.
